Cultural Exchange

A cultural exchange with a Cikal School in Surabaya has been organised, through the organisation Know My World. The purpose of the exchange is to foster cultural understanding between our schools. The students will connect through the platform Edmodo, Skype and school blogs.
Through this exchange our students will develop the Geographical concepts of the differences and similarities between Indonesia and Australia. They will explore the characteristics of each place and their uniqueness. They will look at the concept of how people are interconnected with other communities around the world. Understanding how the environment affects the culture will be a part of this unit.
The students will also have opportunity to explore the culture of another world community firsthand through interviews, surveys, pictures and videos. They will communicate what they have learned by creating a Newspaper Article or Infographic on what they have learned which we will share with Cikal school.

Here are some photos from our first Skype call to Cikal School in Surabaya.

All of Stage 3 were together for a quiz game that each School organised for each other.

Students read their true or false questions to the students from Cikal.

There was plenty of excitement throughout the experience. Students have already started posting chats to each other and are getting to know each other's cultures.

ANZAC Day

Welcome Back

It's great to see everyone's smiling faces again. This term promises to be an eventful one, full of many interesting activities and experiences that have been planned for the students. The first important event is ANZAC day.

Today and Wednesday students will take part in a variety of experiences to commemorate this day and remember those who have sacrificed for our nation.

Students spent some time today reading and being read to from the ANZAC day Commemoration Committee website. They started using a handout from this site which explains some of the reasons behind ANZAC day, and will do some more of it on Wednesday before taking the rest home to complete at their leisure

We listened to an excellent Australian book called 'One Minute Silence' and had a discussion about how the ANZAC's and the Turks might have felt during the battle at Gallipoli and Lone Pine.

Students also had the opportunity to listen to a war veteran talk about some of the equipment that soldiers used during wartime and peace keeping operations.

Students represented themselves excellently.

Easter Hat Parade and Missions Day

The students had a wonderful time during our Easter Hat Parade. The parade was started well by some year 6 students who addressed the audience with a presentation of the true meaning of Easter. This was then followed by the classes parading their creations.

Congratulations Ryne for being our class winner!

Our popcorn stall was a big success. The students were busy the entire time and we raised about $100 to go towards the College's mission work.

The girls started the stall off before the boys took over for the second shift.

Thank you Eashan for going above and beyond with the cleaning of the entire MPH!

Term 1 done!

Completion of Term 1

Time flies when you are having fun, or you when you are really busy, and we have experienced both.

I am constantly reminded each day, as well as from other teachers, of the outstanding students in 5B. Although not perfect, I have been greatly impressed by the dedication to improvement from each student.

I am already looking forward to what we can achieve together next term as well as some areas we could do with a little more practice.

Mogo Town
There is a separate page with some pictures. Unfortunately I lost most of day one's pictures :(  You could try looking at the blogs from 5S and 6T for more pictures. Their links are at the bottom of the page.

Harmony DayStudents completed a few interesting and thought provoking activities on harmony day. I loved the fact that they all wanted to be an active part in each activity.

Monkey MACC
5B are always the class to look up to when it comes to their behaviour. During Week 7's Friday assembly, they won Monkey Macc for the week.
