Our student blog report

What we are doing today is telling you about tape art projects. In class this term, we have been learning about how art shows messages around the world. We have made the decision to show signs on how to make our school a better place by using tape art. A lot of people came up with really cool ideas and they are very unique, just like we all are!!

Masking tape artwork

On Wednesday, 5B were working on their masking tape artwork. Our task was to  demonstrate a problem in our school using masking tape as our building material eg. Littering, bullying, fighting, improving the school etc. We had other individuals to assist us making our artwork.

Amazing 5B

It might have been the teacher's birthday today, but the stars were the students from 5B.

To put it simply, I am continually amazed and honored by the thoughtfulness of this bunch of young people. Little did I know, but a bunch of students had been asking me questions in the weeks preceding today preparing for a surprise party.

Thank you 5B for this unique and humbling experience.

And how did I reward these angels?.........

A Maths test.

Making a Putt-Putt course in Maths

In Maths we have been learning about area and making putt-putt courses.

The task was very, very, very difficult, but everyone made it alive! We also made a mini course. 1cm on our paper it would equal 10cm on a long piece of paper.
Thank you,
Cassie

Earth Project

On Thursday everyone was scared but excited because we were showing off our Science projects. We all worked very hard on the projects showing the layers of the earth. We all had 2 weeks to work on the project.

Here are some photos we have to show off our models to you.

As you can see, all of them are creative and have been worked hard on. As we said before, all of us had great fun with creating these projects and we hope that we have another project/assignment just like it soon.

Amazing Earth!

There was such a sense of energy and life in the classroom this morning as students brought in and showed off their Earth Projects to their peers. It was amazing to see so many different interpretations of the requirement to create a 2D or 3D Earth.

We will have a chance tomorrow for each student to point out their features and talk about the work that went into creating these masterpieces. I look forward to reading their explanations and giving feedback.

Here are the students who have brought in their assignments so far:

It's a disaster!

Term 4 is fast becoming a disaster term!!! Well, during Science and Geography anyway.

During Science this term, Stage 3 will be exploring plate tectonics and the devastating results of this process. I will be putting some information on the Science tab of this blog to help with the students investigations. Our first Homework task is also on this tab.

During Geography, we will be looking at bush fires and how they shape our environment and how we interact with our environment. More information about Geography will be added to the Geography tab as it becomes more relevant.

Our first Geography lesson sparked the students' interest as we learned about the Fire Triangle and the three things a fire needs to continue combustion.

I ran a few simple experiments in front of the class and we had a big discussion on what a fire needs to continue. Each student wrote a few observations from the experiment as well as what they learned from watching a short documentary on the 2009 Victorian fires.

MACC City

During Geography this term students have been exploring the concepts of how natural environments affect how people construct built environments. Our final activity was to plan and construct a city in the Stage 3 play area. This city was then visited by some classes in the infants and their Ozobots.

Throughout the term students have been learning about the processes of town planning. During these lessons they have been challenged to come up with solutions to problems where there is no clear correct answer. Problems that mean that one group in society would be benefited, while another group might be disadvantaged. They have grown in their appreciation of negotiation, compromise and the greater good of a community.

In preparing for constructing MACC City students were placed into groups of 4 and where given the roles of: Project manager, Civil engineer, Environmental Specialist, Planner. While taking on these roles students planned a town based on the shape of the Stage 3 play area using a scale. Each group worked on giving a report as to how their role and involvement helped shape their town.

A final design was chosen and each group in Stage 3 where given a structure to build in 3D. The stage 3 students were then tasked with the responsibility to help the infants program their Ozobots to drive on the roads.

Nothing like taking on a role and actively participating in a project when learning. Lots of great memories and maybe a future town planner or two.
