1 Minute to Speak

5B have been learning about speech writing and presenting over the last couple of weeks. Today’s one minute speeches was a chance to assess how far we have come and what our next steps are in learning to be effective communicators.

Our learning has been based on preparing, posture, and pampering the audience. We first started with how to engage and pamper the audience by using effective eye contact and addressing the audience. We have worked on our speech writing and explored different ways we can apply our understanding of persuasive text to a verbal speech.

We watched an excellent speech by a PhD student, as well as sitting in on stage 4’s and stage 5’s Speak Out public speaking finals. This strong calibre of speakers really helped each student to see what they could do.

During each speech today students were asked to critique their peers. At the end, each student was given their critiqued notes to look over and see where they can improve.

Although the topic this time was given to them, we are aiming to complete a free choice speech by the end of the term. Today’s speech was one minute long and only in front of a small audience, however, the next speech will be up to two minutes and in front of the class.

5B's Got Talent

We were well represented in the recent MACC's Got Talent competition. Our students sung and danced their way on the stage with great skill and energy.

Congratulations to Odelia who came second out of all the Primary acts. What a fantastic voice!

Week 5 happenings

Congratulations to Brianna and Chloe for receiving the Reading award at assembly today. I love the way you strive to understand everything you read.

Students have been exploring beat and rhythm through games and songs.

We have started a 4 week long cricket skills clinic. A Cricket Australia high performance coach has been honing our skills on Wednesday afternoon.

These last few weeks have been all about measurement during Maths. We have been working on our angle and area knowledge.

Oh yeah, and we won Monkey MACC because we're awesome!
